Get propagating

Since we’re likely to be planting out hardy things from mid march, we might start to think about getting seeds going in propagators and in the glasshouse.  We already have a lot of stuff going in our propagation area as the photo graph shows but we’re going to be planting out under glass. In fact we’ve been busily clearing the ground in the glasshouse for this year’s planting.

This area here is heated in that we don’t let it go below 7 degrees.  If it does an alarm goes off in the house and her maj has to get up and fiddle with the boiler. You of course won’t be so much of a slave to your plants as us – probably.

So you might benefit from a propagation kit.Simplest option?  We sell the Root!t propagator kits which come with a set of seeding modules ready to go for £15.  We also sell Stewart heated propagators which retail at £18.99 and if you’re really flash you can buy a propagation insert tray for the revolutionary aerogarden for £24.99 so you can take time off from growing salad leaves and fresh herbs to get some seedlings up and running.  Full details in the Amazon Shop.

Otherwise keep on tidying up.  It’s got noticeably warmer the last few days – we’ve not been below freezing here the last couple of nights. The ground is still impossibly wet for any serious work – any attempt to work it or even walk on it will only damage the soil structure. However if you have any last minute fruit pruning to do better get it done in the next couple of weeks. We’re going to have a crack at taking some truncheons from our mulberry tree this year – so we’ll keep you posted. About how we get on.

Next post will be about phosphate – and Mycorrhiza!
